  Bandipur Tiger Reserve

Once the private hunting grounds of the maharaja, Bandipur is one of the key domains of the Bengal tiger in the south. It is about 80 kilometers from the city of Mysore on route to the major tourist destination of Ooty. It was established under Project Tiger in 1973 by adding nearly 800 sq.km to the Venugopala Wildlife Park.

The park provides a safe environment for several species of India's endangered wildlife and also provides refuge to other threatened and vulnerable species of flora and fauna. It supports a good population of Indian elephants, gaur, tigers, sloth bears, mugger crocodiles, Indian rock python, four horned antelopes, jackals and dholes.
