																Delhi's Oberoi
																hotel to take 2
																years off for
																facelift |

																The iconic
																Oberoi hotel - a
																landmark in the
																heart of Delhi
																for the last 50
																years — will be
																shut down for
																major renovation
																from April 1.
																East India
																Hotels (EIH),
																the parent
																company of
																Oberoi Hotels,
																has informed the
																Bombay Stock
																Exchange that
																the property is
																expected to
																reopen by April
																1, 2018.

																"The existing
																building will
																undergo thorough
																renovation. Its
																guest rooms,
																public areas and
																'back of the
																house' will be
																completely
																renovated," said
																an EIH official.
																The group
																clarified that
																the existing
																structure
																wouldn't be
																razed to make
																way for a brand
																new building in
																its place.

																The Oberoi's
																planned two year
																shutdown is one
																of the longest
																renovation
																period for a
																marquee hotel in
																the country. The
																Taj Mahal Palace
																in Mumbai, which
																was attacked on
																November 26,
																2008, reopened
																on October 15,
																2010, after
																being restored
																at a cost of Rs
																180 crore.

																The capital's
																Oberoi was the
																first hotel to
																be built by the
																late M S Oberoi,
																who founded the
																group in 1934.
																The first two
																hotels that he
																had acquired,
																one each in
																Shimla and
																Kolkata, were
																existing
																properties. |

																First look:
																Vivanta by Taj –
																Guwahati |

																|

																	Guwahati,
																	the hub of
																	the
																	northeast,
																	has a new
																	Taj
																	property,
																	aimed at
																	business and
																	leisure
																	travellers.
																	Its location
																	on the
																	Guwahati–Shillong
																	highway,
																	right at the
																	centre of
																	the city’s
																	administrative
																	and
																	corporate
																	areas, makes
																	it ideal for
																	guests on
																	business,
																	while
																	holidayers
																	will
																	appreciate
																	the easy
																	access to
																	the
																	Brahmaputra

																	cruise.
																	Here’s a
																	sneak peek
																	at the
																	property:

																	The Vivanta
																	by Taj –
																	Guwahati is
																	spread over
																	five acres
																	of land and
																	has lawns
																	and ponds
																	and vast
																	expanses of

																	The décor
																	blends
																	modern
																	design with
																	the
																	traditional
																	architectural
																	styles of
																	Assam. So
																	while the
																	main
																	pavilion
																	building is
																	themed on
																	Guwahati’s
																	Kamakhya
																	temple, the
																	lobby has
																	been adorned
																	with 1,008
																	sacred
																	bells. As
																	for dining
																	options,
																	Umami does
																	Japanese and
																	Chinese
																	cuisine
																	centred on
																	the ‘fifth
																	taste’ of
																	umami, while
																	Seven, the
																	coffee shop
																	(pictured),
																	serves
																	Indian
																	(including
																	north-eastern),
																	pan-Asian
																	and
																	Mediterranean.
																	You can get
																	the state’s
																	signature
																	Assam chai
																	at The Tea
																	Lounge and
																	live music
																	at the bar,
																	Octave.

																	“The opening
																	of Hyatt
																	Place Goa/Candolim
																	is a
																	significant
																	milestone
																	for the
																	Hyatt Place
																	brand as it

																	globe,” said
																	Kurt Straub,
																	Hyatt’s vice
																	president of
																	operations,
																	India.
																	“Goa’s first
																	Hyatt Place
																	hotel will
																	be a vibrant
																	and dynamic
																	hotel that
																	combines
																	comfort and
																	style that
																	fits right
																	into the
