Traveling to a new country can sometimes be a hectic experience, what with the different requirements for travel documents and permissions. For a short visit to Sri Lanka, you need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) prior to your arrival, which can be obtained through an online system.

The ETA is initially limited to 30 days validity from the date of arrival although it may be extended for up to six months. Citizens of Singapore, Maldives and Seychelles are exempt from the requirement of obtaining ETA to visit Sri Lanka. For others, below is a step by step guide.

THE PROCESS

Step 1 :

Fill in the required details and submit the ETA application at https://eta.gov.lk/etaslvisa/etaNavServ?payType=1.

Step 2 :

Pay the ETA processing fee online with a debit/credit card.

Step 3 :

You will receive an approval notice for your application.

Step 4 :

Print out the notice and present it to the immigration officer at the time of arrival, along with any other documentation mentioned in the same.

ELIGIBILITY

  • At the arrival, you will be granted 30 days ETA with double entry facility and double entries can be made from the date of initial arrival (Within given 30 days). The balance period of the 30 days of the initial entry will be granted for the second visit to Sri Lanka.
  • An ETA holder is entitled to enter Sri Lanka within three months from the date of issue of ETA.
  • In the event of ETA being rejected, the system will send a referral notification to the applicant and he/she needs to contact the nearest Sri Lanka Overseas Mission for necessary assistance.
