Some art forms are made on canvas. This one is mad Some art forms are made on canvas. This one is made on water.

In Udaipur, a dedicated family has spent decades reviving Jal Sanjhi, a centuries-old painting tradition rooted in devotion to Lord Krishna. Charcoal and natural pigments are laid across the surface of water, stencils placed with careful precision, and a floating image slowly takes shape before it is lifted onto paper.

It is the kind of craft you have to see to believe. If you'd like to experience Udaipur this way, reach out at engage@creative.travel

People have been documenting their travels since l People have been documenting their travels since long before the internet. At Sigiriya, there's a wall to prove it.

The Mirror Wall at this ancient Sri Lankan fortress was polished to such a fine finish that it once reflected the images of those who passed by. Over six centuries, it became something no one planned for: a place where visitors stopped to write down what they felt. Poems, observations, declarations of love, and simple records of being there. Over 1,800 inscriptions in total.

The urge to share a travel experience is not a modern invention. If you could leave a message for future travellers, what would it say? Tell us in the comments. To explore Sri Lanka beyond the obvious, reach out at engage@creative.travel

Some crafts outlast empires. In Bhaktapur, pottery Some crafts outlast empires. In Bhaktapur, pottery is one of them.

In the village of Thimi, the Prajapatis have been shaping clay for centuries. The same hands, the same wheels, the same traditions passed down through generations of Nepal's most skilled potters. A few kilometres away, Bhaktapur's Pottery Square tells the same story on a larger stage, where rows of drying pots line the courtyards and the craft happens entirely in the open.

This is the Kathmandu Valley at its most unhurried. If you'd like to shape a journey around experiences like this, reach out at engage@creative.travel

Most national parks are defined by their land. Thi Most national parks are defined by their land. This one doesn't have any.

Keibul Lamjao in Manipur floats. The entire park sits on phumdis, which are thick, spongy mats of decomposed vegetation that have been accumulating for centuries across Loktak Lake. And moving through it is the Sangai, an endangered deer found nowhere else on earth, once believed to be extinct in India, quietly surviving on ground that shifts beneath every step.

Some crafts are kept alive in museums. In Bagru, t Some crafts are kept alive in museums. In Bagru, they're kept alive by hand.

Just outside Jaipur, this small village has been producing block-printed textiles for generations. The wooden blocks are still carved by hand. The dyes are still drawn from natural sources. And the fabric still moves through the same unhurried process it always has.

A half-day here isn't just a workshop. It's an introduction to a way of making things that the rest of the world has largely forgotten. If you'd like to weave experiences like this into your journey, reach out at engage@creative.travel

Most countries take water for granted. The Maldive Most countries take water for granted. The Maldives had to invent a relationship with it.

There are no rivers here, no lakes, no streams. Just ocean in every direction and a fragile layer of rainwater trapped beneath the coral, floating above the salt. For centuries, that invisible sliver was the only thing standing between an entire civilisation and thirst.

The Maldives you see above the water is stunning. The one beneath it is extraordinary. Did you know an entire nation could exist without a single river? Tell us in the comments. To explore the Maldives beyond the obvious, reach out at engage@creative.travel

Fontainhas, Panjim's Latin Quarter, is one of India's most intact Portuguese neighbourhoods. Narrow lanes in ochre and indigo, chapels that have stood for centuries, the oldest bakery in the city, and homes whose families have lived there longer than most countries have had borders.

At around 3,700 metres in Nepal's Mustang region, this is one of the few places on earth that devotees believe brings all five elements together in a single shrine. Celebrated on the full moon of Vaishakha, Buddha Purnima is the holiest day in the Buddhist calendar. It marks the birth, enlightenment, and passing of the Buddha, all on the same day. Across India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan, the day is observed with offerings, prayer, and a stillness that feels unlike any other.

May this day bring you compassion, wisdom, and inner peace, from the Creative Travel family of brands!

In India, the day draws pilgrims to Bodh Gaya and Sarnath, the most sacred sites in the Buddha's life. In Nepal, devotees circle the great stupas of Kathmandu at dawn, spinning prayer wheels and offering incense. In Sri Lanka, the celebration extends well into the night, with lanterns and illuminated pandals filling city streets. In Bhutan, it is a different date and a different name altogether.
