Karva Chauth: A Celebration of Love, Faith and Togetherness ❤️

Today is a very special day in the lives of millions of married women across India.

It is Karva Chauth, a beautiful tradition where love, devotion and faith come together under the light of the moon. For centuries, across generations, Indian women have looked towards the same moon, carrying with them prayers of love, devotion and togetherness. This is the timeless beauty of Karva Chauth.

On this day, women traditionally fast from sunrise until moonrise, praying for the long life, happiness and well-being of their husbands. As evening falls, they dress in their finest, adorn themselves with jewellery and henna, and await that magical moment when the moon appears.

And when it does, the fast is broken, often with the husband offering the first sip of water, followed by gifts, affection and quiet moments of gratitude.

There is something wonderfully poetic about a love celebrated beneath the same moon that has watched over countless generations.

Beyond the rituals, Karva Chauth is also a beautiful reminder that marriage is a journey of shared love, care, respect and commitment. And that devotion deserves to be cherished and reciprocated.

The triumph of good over evil takes centre stage as India celebrates Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami. Rooted in the ancient epic of the Ramayana, the festival commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana, the demon king who abducted his wife, Sita.

Across the country, the occasion comes alive through vibrant celebrations, dramatic performances of the Ramayana known as Ramlila, and the burning of towering effigies of Ravana, symbolising the destruction of evil and the enduring power of righteousness. In other parts of India, Vijayadashami also marks Goddess Durga’s victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura, celebrating the triumph of divine power over darkness.

Beyond the festivities, Dussehra is a reminder that truth and righteousness will ultimately prevail, making it a time for reflection, renewal and new beginnings.

Imagine walking through Kolkata during Durga Puja, when the city comes alive with celebrations at every turn.

One moment, you’re admiring grand pandals, the temporary pavilions built for the festival, inspired by art, architecture and contemporary themes. The next, you’re wandering through narrow lanes lined with stalls serving kathi rolls, puchkas (crisp shells filled with tangy spiced water) and mishti, the city’s beloved sweets. Beyond the crowds, step into the courtyards of old bonedi baris, heritage family mansions where Durga Puja traditions have been preserved for generations.

As the festival draws to a close, women come together for Sindoor Khela, applying vermilion to one another before bidding farewell to the Goddess. Soon after, Durga’s idol makes her final journey to the Hooghly River for immersion, bringing the celebrations to a poignant close.

Navratri marks the start of the festive season, a time for prayers, traditions and being together. To celebrate the auspicious occasion, we held a traditional puja and havan at our office, decorated with fresh flowers and filled with festive spirit.

Dedicated to Goddess Durga and her nine forms, Navratri celebrates the triumph of good over evil and symbolises strength, devotion and renewal. Many observe the nine-day festival through fasting and prayer, following specific dietary traditions.

Following the havan, we came together over a special lunch of vrat ka khaana, meaning food prepared according to fasting customs, avoiding ingredients such as grains, lentils and certain spices.

As we embrace the festive season, may these days bring peace, prosperity and positivity to all. Wishing everyone a Happy Navratri!

You may know the Nine Arch Bridge in Ella, Sri Lan

You may know the Nine Arch Bridge in Ella, Sri Lanka. But its story deserves a second look.

The bridge was built at a time when steel had become central to modern railway construction. Then, during the First World War, the steel allocated for the project was redirected to the war effort.

Instead of abandoning the railway line, the bridge was built using stone, brick and cement, with nine massive masonry arches spanning the ravine. It was finally completed in 1921.

What makes it even more remarkable? This wasn't a bridge built for pedestrians or horse-drawn traffic. It was built to carry heavy trains through Sri Lanka's steep hill country, and still does so more than a century later.

Some of India’s most unspoken ambassadors wear a uniform.

Every day, CISF personnel work in places that are part of the India travellers experience, from airports and railway stations to some of the country’s important public and heritage spaces.

Shweta Mishra Singh, Head of HR, Creative Travel, was invited to conduct a soft skills training session for CISF personnel at the Aviation Security Training Institute (ASTI), exploring the small but meaningful ways we communicate and connect with people.

The conversation touched on something that can be easy to overlook: even the briefest interaction can shape how someone remembers a place.

For those of us who bring travellers to India, that is a thought that stays with us. Because travel is experienced not only through the places we take people to but also through the people they encounter along the way.

Today, Thimphu comes alive with the vibrant colours, rhythms and rituals of Thimphu Tshechu, one of Bhutan’s most celebrated festivals.

Initiated in 1867 by the Fourth Desi, Gyalse Tenzin Rabgay, the three-day celebration honours Guru Rinpoche, the Buddhist master who brought Tantric Buddhism to Bhutan. Sacred masked dances, known as Cham, bring stories of faith, wisdom and the triumph of good over evil to life, alongside folk songs, music and gatherings in traditional dress.

More than a festival, Tshechu is a time for prayer, blessings, community and celebration, offering a glimpse into Bhutan’s living heritage.

Joyful, spiritual and deeply rooted in tradition, Thimphu Tshechu is Bhutanese culture in its most vibrant form, and an experience worth having at least once in a lifetime.

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, revered in Hindu tradition as the remover of obstacles and a deity of wisdom and prosperity.

Celebrated across India, the festival has ancient roots, while freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak popularised its public celebration in Maharashtra in the late 19th century. Today, communities across the country welcome Ganesha into decorated pandals, with Maharashtra, particularly Mumbai and Pune, renowned for its grand celebrations, music, cultural programmes and processions.

At home, families welcome smaller idols with prayers, flowers and offerings, including modaks, traditionally associated with Ganesha. The festivities conclude with visarjan, when devotees immerse the idol in water.

Vrindavan is full of flowers, music and Raas Leela performances. In Dwarka, Krishna’s legendary kingdom, the Dwarkadhish Temple becomes the centre of the celebration, holding big rituals and a midnight aarti. In Maharashtra people celebrate with Dahi Handi. Human pyramids reach for pots of curd. In Patan, Nepal devotees go to the Krishna Mandir to honour the birth of Krishna.

A remarkable achievement from our team member, @dsky_gupta1010 who completed the Surya Spiti Marathon last weekend. At elevations reaching over 3,800 metres, navigating thin air and demanding mountain terrain, this is no small feat.

Starting from Sumdo in Spiti, Akash covered 21 kilometres in 2 hours and 39 minutes. What makes this achievement even more special is that he dedicated the run to Creative Travel. It reflects the same values we bring to our work every day: perseverance, dedication, and the willingness to go the extra mile.

Many of you have been in touch with us following news of the devastating flash floods and landslides affecting the Nepal - Tibet border region, so we wanted to share a brief update.

The situation remains fluid, with significant damage reported in northern Nepal and across the border in Tibet. Rescue and relief operations are underway, and the full extent of the tragedy is still becoming clear.

We can confirm that none of our guests or team members have been affected. Our local teams are monitoring developments closely and reviewing any potential impact on upcoming travel arrangements.

Our thoughts are very much with the people who have lost their lives, those who remain missing, their families, and everyone affected by this terrible disaster.

At this stage, there is no reason for us to speculate while information continues to emerge. Should we identify any impact on an upcoming journey, we will contact the relevant partner immediately and work through any necessary alternatives.

The Creative Travel family of brands takes the safety and well-being of our guests extremely seriously and would never compromise on it. We remain in close contact with our teams and partners on the ground and will continue to monitor the situation carefully.
