  India Visa Update
An update to the India visa rules that were amended earlier this year. There was a lot of confusion on the issue of re-entry into India by guests who left to visit neighbouring countries. This document clarifies those questions.

Hyderabad International Convention Centre bags Green Globe Certified status
Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) has achieved Green Globe Certified status under the Green Globe Earthcheck Certification programme managed by EC3 Global. The global programme has recognised HICC’s commitment to operate at the world’s highest environmental standard. HICC is the first Green Globe certified convention centre in India. As per the release, prior to achieving Certification, HICC benchmarked using the EarthcheckTM tool against key environmental indicators including energy and water consumption, total waste production and community commitment. The Certification process involves either an onsite audit or offsite assessment by an EC3 Global approved independent third party Green Globe Auditor. The successful completion of the Certification process demonstrates HICC’s strong commitment to the principles of environmental sustainability.

 
         
 

  Goa Chitra, an Ethnographical museum opens for tourists
Goa Chitra, a museum set against the back drop of an organic farm, is a tribute to the Goan ancestral way of life. The museum comprises more than 4000 objects. The structure of the museum blends modern technologies with the traditional materials and elements, such as wood, stone, doors, pillars and railings. The concept of the museum’s construction resonates with the view that resources are to be used judiciously. The different zones at Goa Chitra include an art gallery, organic farm, museum, Tulsi, the recreational and performance area, and a health and organic shop. The orchid farm has plantations of coconut, mango, chickoo, banana, pineapple, amla, cocum, cashew, drumsticks. The fields are sown with three types of indigenous rice namely Kendel, Honchro and Doga. Goa Chitra seeks not only to restore and preserve the traditional agrarian lifestyle but also to promote the adoption of eco-friendly techniques practiced by ancestors.
 
         
 

  India's first international marina in Kochi
A full-fledged marina of international standards; first of its kind in India has come up in Kochi. Poised to become an icon in the travel and tourism sector of Kerala, the marina was inaugurated by Sri. A. K. Antony, Honourable Minister for Defence, Government of India. Not far away from Marine Drive on the mainland of Kochi and close to the sea port of Kochi, the marina would have berthing facilities for 50 yachts at a time. Further, there is a Marina House, which would serve as a station for vessels to refuel and to replenish their stores. The Marina House would also have accommodation facility - 32 rooms, a recreation centre, convention centre and playground for children. One of the main attractions, which is part of the marina at Bolgatty Island would be the golf course. This stopover for yachts would significantly enhance cruise tourism to Kerala.

Sri Lanka records world's highest growth in tourism; Tourism economy enjoys unprecedented boom
Sri Lanka has topped another list by recording the highest growth in tourist arrivals during the first two months of 2010. An interim report of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) lists Sri Lanka with a 50 percent growth in tourist arrivals among 77 countries that have reported international arrivals data so far. The report states that Sri Lanka outperformed 23 other countries with double-digit growth rates. Saudi Arabia was ranked second (+45%) with Israel ranking 3rd (+37%), while Vietnam (+36%) at the 4th place and Nepal (+30%) fifth. Director General Marketing, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Dilip Mudadeniya said that this healthy trend would continue in the future too..

 
         
 

  National Geographic Channel Grades Sri Lanka as the 2nd Best Island To Visit
The world renowned TV Channel in an exclusive report on best places to visit has categorized Sri Lanka as the 2nd best place to visit. Under this list Hong Kong occupies the 9th place, Bali 7th place, Mauritius 4th place and Zanzibar 3rd place. In an exclusive report on Sri Lanka the commentators Travel Writer of the Times, Jil Crawshow and Editor of Wandertrust Magazine describe Sri Lanka as “definitely a best place to visit”. Opening the commentary with the first world traveler Marco Polo’s description of Sri Lanka as the “Jade Pendant in the Indian Ocean” the commentators say Sri Lanka is exactly what it is and Sri Lanka has got basically everything for a tourist.

  Maldives wins “Best Diving Area” & “Best Dreaming Area” in the Dive and Travel Awards 2010
The Maldives has been awarded as the “Best Diving Area” and “Best Dreaming Area” in the Dive & Travel Awards 2010 held during the Marine Diving Fair, Tokyo, Japan from 02 – 04th April 2010. The voting was carried out amongst the readers of the both magazines targeted to the divers; “Travel Diver” and “Marine Diving” , based on the “Reader’s Choice Award” Maldives won the “Best Diving Area” after competing with the world famous dive favourites Palau and Ishigaakee Island. The competitors for the “Best Dreaming Area” include Palau and French Polynesia. The awards were collected by the Maldives High Commissioner to Japan, Hon. Mr. Amir Khaleel.

  Heritage Liqueurs introduced at Rambagh Palace, Jaipur
Rajasthan, home to many renowned royal families, is now offering a sip of the heritage liqueurs (once a royal beverage). Made from natural ingredients like saffron, rose, dry fruits and honey, these flavored drinks are rich in medicinal qualities as well the recipe for these liqueurs has been sourced from historic records as various royal families have given their secret formulations to make these spirits a success. Jet Airways has launched the all new ‘Konnect Select’, a premium cabin on several domestic routes, effective April 26, 2010. ‘Konnect Select’ is specifically targeted at the business and leisure travelers who desire more flexibility, comfort and benefits. The new Jet Airways ‘Konnect Select’ will feature wider and more comfortable seats similar to Jet Airways (Business Class) seats with a 40 inch seat pitch, in a front cabin separated from the all-economy cabin by a divider offering enhanced privacy on Jet Airways Konnect Boeing 737 flights. The services also include complementary in-flight reading material, a welcome drink, and complimentary hot meals on-board.
