India can emulate Tourism Malaysia: Joint MD Creative Travel

India can emulate Malaysia's success story in the tourism sector if the industry works together, said Rohit Kohli, Joint Managing Director, Creative Travel Pvt. Ltd., as per a Bernama report. He said that it is amazing to see how the industry works cohesively in Malaysia, the government, Tourism Malaysia and the aviation industry. "Malaysia has done a fantastic job as a destination, India can emulate that," he added.

He noted that Tourism Malaysia makes it a point to travel and promote the country in every destination that Malaysia Airlines or AirAsia flies. "In India, they are all going in 50 different directions at the same time," said Kohli.

According to him the Malaysia Truly Asia, campaign is another success story. That is another incredible step that the government took and the whole sector worked together," he said. Malaysia took the campaign to the second level and supplemented with products to give it a strong impact and continuity, he stated.

Goa is a wonderful state of India. It is extremely popular for its sun-kissed beaches, rare culture and vibrant festivals. Carnival of Goa is the most important and most awaited festival of Goa. It is a 3 days festival of fun, frolic, amusement and merry-making. Carnival is a Latin word which means “to take away meat''. That’s the reason during the carnival, it’s a strict rule to abstain from meat.

Carnival is a festival which is celebrated before Lent. Traditionally during Lent there are no parties or other celebrations and people abstain themselves from rich foods such as meat, dairy products, fats, etcs. The 40 days of Lent, recalling the biblical account of the 40 days Lord Jesus spent in the wilderness. The consumption of rich food in a grand party with the involvement of the whole community leads to the origin of Carnival. This year Goa Carnival will be celebrated from 9th Feb to 12th Feb 2013. The Carnival of Panjim is the most popular compare to others that follow in Margoa, Vasco, Mapusa etc.

Though being a Christian festival, all people of Goa irrespective of any caste & creed take part in this festival. The highlight of the Carnival of Goa is to have lots of fun by indulging in singing, dancing, grand feasting, etc.

The history of the Carnival of Goa dates back to almost 500 years. The trend of celebrating the Carnival dates back to ancient Rome and Greece. The Portuguese introduced the Carnival when they established their colony in Goa. Ever since the carnival is celebrated every year and Goans takes part in it with pleasure. The Goa Carnival has carved a niche with a different charm that can only be experienced in this tiny city.

The Indian Budget to be released on February 28

On the 28th of February ever year, the Government of India releases its annual budget for the country. This is the time that we get to know what our taxes will be, what the economic forecast will be and how we need to plan our businesses. For the past many years, we in the Indian tourism industry have spent many budget days glued to the television, watching the live budget session parliament, and facing utter disillusionment with yet another tourism unfriendly budget. Indian tourism is by far the most heavily taxed tourism industry in Asia. With taxes averaging close to 35% of our package costs, it does become hard for us to explain to the international community why we are expensive and why our rates fluctuate so often.

Our industry associations have been working hard and lobbying for benefits akin to the export industry, which has been a pampered sector for many years. Despite being the largest employer of any industry in India despite contributing to over 6% of the Indian GDP and despite its foreign exchange earning abilities, tourism in India is still the forgotten child when it comes to government policies.

To read a bit more on the budget, you can go to -
http://in.reuters.com/subjects/india-budget-2013

The Indian government has also categorically said that they will be reducing subsidies on diesel prices. Unlike in the West where diesel fuel is at par or more expensive than petrol in India, diesel is a heavily subsidies product and that is why the entire tourism infrastructure in India operates on diesel vehicles. Every time diesel prices are hiked, it sets off a major chain reaction. Trains run on diesel, essential commodities transport runs on fuel, agriculture runs on diesel.

Infact, the government has said that it will hike diesel prices EVERY MONTH. This will be a big blow for all segments in the economy.

Tourism Council of Bhutan to strengthen engagement with travel trade in India

The Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB) will strive to engage the Indian travel trade more to increase inbound passenger traffic from India to Bhutan. As part of strengthening its engagement with the travel trade and media in India, TCB has appointed Charson Advisory Services Pvt. Ltd. as its India Representative.

Although Bhutan is a nextdoor neighbour of India, the awareness about Bhutan as a destination and its travel products is still pretty low among the travel trade in India, said Damcho Rinzin, Account Manager, Manager & Promotion, TCB, while speaking to TravelBiz Monitor. The travel trade in India does not have enough information about our destination, as much as they have about Thailand, Malaysia or Singapore. Therefore, we want to facilitate more engagement between the travel trade in Bhutan and their counterparts here in India, so that they can share knowledge about the destination, he said.
