Creative Travel will be back as an exhibitor at the PATA Travel Mart this month with our signature "Black & Orange" stand. Creative Travel first Indian DMC to buy Luxury Volvo Coaches

Creative Travel has become the first Indian DMC to take possession of two state of the art Volvo coaches. Manufactured for the first time in India by Volvo of Sweden, these buses are setting new standards in the Indian tourism industry. With 40 seats and excellent leg room, each one of these custom ordered coaches costs three time more than the prevailing top of the line Indian coaches and represents a major investment by Creative in quality enhancement. We in Team Creative are proud of our new "babies". Creative Travel is today one of the few DMCs that still has its own fleet of luxury transport. Unlike normal transport suppliers, our coaches and cars are used exclusively for our own clients and are never rented out to other clients.

 
 
 
PATA International Chairman Ram Kohli hands over baton to Nobutaka Ishikure
The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) held its annual conference from April 17 to 21, 2005 in Macau. Mr. Ram Kohli, Chairman & Managing Director of Creative Travel, who had the honour of being elected as PATA International Chairman 2004-05, handed over the baton to Mr. Nobutaka Ishikure after an eventful tenure. Ram is the third Indian ever in PATA’s 53 year history to hold this post. He stepped into this role after two successful terms as elected Secretary-Treasurer and then Chairman-elect of the association. Mr. Kohli got lavish praise from many speakers for his efforts in taking PATA to new heights.

After National Geographic, Lonely Planet and iExplore.com, its now the turn of Conde Nast to list India as one of the 5 top tourist destinations in the world. India to emerge as the Second fastest growing tourism economy
According to the World Travel & Tourism Council, India is poised to emerge as the 2nd fastest growing (8.8%) tourism economy in the world during 2005-14. Montenegro (10.3%) is at the top of the list, and China comes after India at 8.7%. Tourism enhancing developments like a high-octane Incredible India campaign and liberalized airlinks were cited as major factors for India's high growth prospects in travel and tourism demand.
 
Prices continue to Rise in India
The increase in demand between demand and supply has created an imbalance in the market and consequently has put pressure on the rates. The price of the Indian product has gone up 30-50% over the past year and this is resulting in slower sales in many source markets. Illuminated Qutab Minar open for Night Viewing
Over 700 years old, the Qutab Minar is the architectural masterpiece of Delhi - an ancient four-storied structure, and an outstanding example of Muslim architecture. A first for Indian monuments, the Qutab Minar has been opened for night viewing. Visitors will now be allowed from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm.
   
 
India tries to lure tourists back to Jammu & Kashmir. 
Once the crown of the Indian travel industry, Jammu and Kashmir have long been neglected by foreign travelers  for security concerns. However peace initiatives between India and Pakistan over the past few years have yielded results, with peace returning to the Kashmir valley.
The govt. has adopted a hands-on approach to attract tourists back to the region. Creative Travel has been sending guests to the Srinagar area for many years now and uses some of the finest houseboats for its guests. Ministry of Tourism launches Atithi Devo Bhava
Atithi Devo Bhava means "Guest is God" in Sanskrit, and this ambitious domestic campaign of the Ministry of Tourism seeks to make Indians more tourist-friendly. The campaign will involve sensitisation, screening, induction, training and orientation, certification and feedback of key stakeholders of the Indian tourism industry, including taxi drivers, tourist guides, operators, immigration officers, tourist police and others who have direct interaction with inbound tourists. Atithi Devo Bhava will roll out in a phased manner over three years, with Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Goa and Aurangabad being covered in Phase I.
 
Water at Lake Pichola in Udaipur
The monsoons this year have brought some cheer to the lake city. There is water in Lake Pichola, the picturesque lake, that entranced Maharaja Udai Singh and later enlarged by the founder. The lake is surrounded by hills, palaces, temples bathing ghats and embankments. Two island palaces, Jag Mandir and Nag Niwas (Lake Palace) on the lake are of breathtaking magnificence. Guests are now being transferred by boat to the Lake Palace Hotel. The lake is breathtakingly beautiful and thanks to the good monsoons, one can take a cruise on the waters. The sunset cruise over the lake is a sight to be cherished.
   
 
Tourist Submarine to be launched in Cochin.
Kerala is always in the forefront in introducing new ideas to attract tourists. Now a Tourist Submarine is to be launched in Cochin (Kochi) the first of its kind in the country. The Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC) and the Cochin based Pioneer Underwater Tours are jointly introducing a 45- minute underwater cruise in which tourists will be able to observe marine life at close quarters. They will get a panoramic view of the sea world through large- diameter view ports. The submarine will go to a maximum depth of 100m and would carry 24 passengers and two crew members at a time. There will be ten dives, eight in the day and two after sunset.
 
Nepal to promote historic Ashoka Pillar at Lumbini
The Lumbini Development Trust (LDT) has asked the government to promote the historical pillar erected by Emperor Ashoka at Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha during the 5th century B.C. "The Ashoka Pillar needs to be publicized internationally along with the evidential and official description of the inscription written on it," expressed the participants of the workshop organized in Kathmandu. This inscription reads "King Piyadasi (Ashoka), the beloved of Devas, in the 29th year of the coronation, made a visit to Lumbini and paid his homage. Realising the Buddha was born here, a stone railing was built and a stone pillar erected. Because the Lord was born here, the Emperor had the people of Lumbini village freed from some tax and entitled them to the eighth part only".

 
 
Arrival terminal of old Mumbai domestic airport in for refurbishment
Arrival terminal of old Mumbai domestic airport would go under renovation from September 15th 2005. Airlines using this arrival hall are Jet, Sahara, Air Deccan and SpiceJet. They would now arrive at the Indian Airlines arrival terminal. Hence, passengers arriving by these airlines will have to use transport as they will have to be transferred from Indian Airlines Terminal to Old Domestic Airport Departure Terminal.
 
Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation plans to have 2 more Palace On Wheels Trains
RTDC plans to acquire 2 new trains to be put on the same route as it is running to full capacity and are already almost fully sold out for the next few years. The Palace on Wheels, one of the top ten luxury trains in the world, takes tourists on a seven-day tour. The train starts in Delhi and passes through Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Bharatpur and Agra before returning to Delhi on the seventh day.

Hotel & Airline News

Shangri-la opens in Delhi
The $70-million Shangri-La Hotel, New Delhi soft opened recently. The 17-storey, 323-room hotel is a 40-minute drive from the airport, within a two-kilometer range of Parliament House, the Presidential Palace, and the commercial and shopping district of Connaught Place. Catering to business guests, it is equipped with high-speed internet access and Wireless LAN throughout the hotel and business centre, three meeting rooms and its 600 square meter ballroom, which is divisible into four. The hotel is planning a grand opening in early November.
   
 
British Air to add 26 flights to London
In a move that is likely to bring down fares on the busy India-UK sector and provide more options to Indian consumers, British Airways is planning an aggressive expansion with 26 more flights every week to London. Read the full article at this link.

Air India starts new Kolkata - London service from 4th June
Air-India has started a new service from Kolkata to London from 4th June. It offers 3 flights a week on this sector - Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Air-India has also started Delhi-Amritsar -Birmingham -Toronto service three times a week from 15th May 2005 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
 
Delta-Air opens new passage to India with Chennai Flight
Delta Airlines is taking international customers on a new Passage to India with daily, direct service to Chennai International Airport in southern India from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. Delta will fly the route on Boeing 767-300ER aircraft and will carry up to 204 passengers. "India represents a strategic and growing market for the U.S. and Delta and is part of our international expansion plans," said Paulette Corbin, senior Vice President of Inflight Service. "Chennai and the Tamil Nadu region show strong economic growth and rising prosperity, as well as being a key center for trade and the gateway to South India".
   
 
Virgin now flies to Mumbai
Virgin Atlantic Airways has recently added Mumbai, the second destination in India, after Delhi, to its route network. The flights on the London - Mumbai sector are thrice in a week while those on London - Delhi sector are daily.
 
India's third budget carrier, Kingfisher Airlines begins operations with flights between Mumbai and Bangalore.
Modeled after US low-cost operator JetBlue, Kingfisher offers fares that are at least 35 per cent lower than those of full-service airlines. Kingfisher Airlines offers a single class service and provides in-flight entertainment, unlike other budget airlines. Like the New York-based JetBlue, Kingfisher says it is positioning itself between low-cost operators and full-service ones in terms of amenities and services provided.
   
 
Continental to fly Delhi-New York
Continental Airlines will launch daily non-stop flights between New Delhi and New York/Newark effective November 1, 2005 (westbound), subject to government approval. Flying times will be approximately 15 hours, 50 minutes westbound and 13 hours, 55 minutes eastbound. The new flights, the first scheduled non-stop service between India and the United States, will link the capital of India with New York, the world's financial capital and the number one US business and tourism destination.
 
Taj Luxury apartments in Mumbai
The Taj Group of Hotels will be opening its first luxury apartments in India. Taj Wellington Mews, located in downtown Colaba will be the Indian Hotels Ltd's fourth property in Mumbai. The circular shaped building is 18 storey high and houses 80 fully furnished apartments. Each beautifully designed residence offers amenities like the home theatre system with surround sound, plasma TVs and Wi-Fi connectivity, including a fully equipped modular kitchen, spacious storage areas, and more. Guests can unwind or recharge at the spa, gym, or swimming pool, within the hotel premises or have a peaceful walk along the landscaped areas. Government gives the nod to fleet acquisition plan of Indian Airlines
Indian Airlines will soon realise its fleet acquisition plan by acquiring 43 Airbus aircrafts comprising A319s, A320s and A32s to replace its ageing fleet. The first plane is expected to reach India in the middle of 2006 to be followed by one plane every month. Airbus will set up an ultra-modern training centre for pilots in India with an investment of $75 million and establish spare-parts ware houses in India, not only for Indian Airlines but for other carriers as well.


Hotel Upgrade
Many hotels are undergoing renovation to gear up for the winter and offer a better product. The Park, Delhi is renovating some of its floors. Le Meridien Delhi is also undergoing a major renovation. Other hotels like Jai Mahal Palace, Umaid Bhawan Palace are also sprucing up for the next season.
