The state prohibition and excise department has decided to give managers of hotels with liquor shops the authority to issue tourist liquor permits to people coming to Gujarat from abroad or from some other states. Sources said the department has also issued orders for liquor shops and hotel owners to give 'group liquor permits' liberally to foreign delegates and those from other states coming for the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit and Pravasi Bhartiya Divas celebrations in January 2015. Incidentally, hotel managers cannot issue these permits to people residing in Gujarat.

It will not be necessary to stay in a hotel to get a tourist liquor permit. "A visitor staying in some other hotel which does not have a liquor shop or is staying as a guest with some local resident will also be allowed to get tourist liquor permit by providing the mandatory documents," said a source.
